Can I Fix My Underbite in Just Two Visits?

The Short Answer: Yes. For Many Adults, It Is Possible.

One of the most common questions I hear is:

“Can my underbite really be corrected in just two visits?”

For carefully selected patients, the answer is yes.

Using the Kurpis Method™ for Non Surgical Underbite Correction, many adults can achieve a dramatic improvement in their bite, smile, facial balance, and confidence in as few as two treatment visits, without jaw surgery.

Before and after profile photographs showing successful non surgical underbite correction completed in two visits using the Kurpis Method™, demonstrating improved bite alignment, smile aesthetics, and facial profile.

The example shown above demonstrates how a properly planned treatment can transform an underbite into a balanced, attractive smile while preserving a natural appearance.

Not Everyone Is A Candidate

Although many patients qualify, treatment always begins with a comprehensive examination.

Before recommending any treatment, I perform a complete evaluation that includes:

  • Full mouth dental examination
  • Periodontal (gum) evaluation
  • Comprehensive bite analysis
  • TMJ examination and history
  • Review of medical and dental history
  • Digital photographs
  • Appropriate radiographs and CBCT imaging when indicated

The teeth and gums must be healthy enough to support treatment.

If decay, gum disease, broken teeth, or other dental problems are present, those conditions are addressed first before cosmetic correction is considered.

Try Before You Buy

One of the unique features of the Kurpis Method™ is something most patients have never experienced.

Before any final treatment begins, I create a full mouth composite mock up directly in your mouth.

This allows you to:

  • See your future smile.
  • Experience your new bite.
  • Feel how your teeth contact one another.
  • Evaluate your speech.
  • Assess the appearance of your facial profile.
  • Decide whether the treatment feels right for you.

It is truly a “Try Before You Buy” experience.

Instead of wondering what the final result might look like, you actually experience it before making your final decision.

Very few areas of dentistry allow patients this opportunity.

Why Patients Love The Mock Up

Patients often tell me:

“I finally know what my smile is supposed to feel like.”

The temporary mock up removes uncertainty.

There are no surprises.

You can smile, speak, and function with your proposed new bite before committing to the definitive treatment.

That level of confidence makes the decision much easier.

Is There An Age Limit?

Many people assume they are too old.

That simply is not true.

I have successfully corrected underbites in adults throughout their lives, including patients in their 70s and even their 80s.

Age alone is not the limiting factor.

Overall dental health, bone support, gum health, and careful treatment planning are far more important than chronological age.

What About Teenagers?

Treatment should not be performed while the jaws are still growing.

The jaws and facial skeleton should be fully developed before definitive correction is considered.

For most patients, this occurs in their late teens to early twenties, although individual growth patterns vary.

Treating patients before growth is complete can lead to changes in jaw relationships that may compromise long-term stability.

Why Many Adults Choose A Non Surgical Alternative

Traditional correction of an underbite often involves:

  • Orthognathic jaw surgery
  • Hospitalization
  • General anesthesia
  • Significant recovery time
  • Extended orthodontic treatment

Many adults simply do not want surgery.

Others have medical conditions that make major surgery less desirable, particularly later in life.

For carefully selected patients, a non surgical approach may provide an attractive alternative while avoiding many of the risks, expense, and recovery associated with orthognathic surgery.

The Bottom Line

If you have been living with an underbite for years, you may have more options than you realize.

For properly selected adults with healthy teeth and gums, it may be possible to achieve a dramatic improvement in as little as two treatment visits, without jaw surgery.

The first step is not treatment.

The first step is determining whether you are a candidate through a comprehensive examination and experiencing your potential result with a full mouth mock up.

Only then can you make an informed decision with confidence.
