The Smile Preview Process: Can I See My New Smile Before Treatment?

One of the biggest fears patients have about cosmetic dentistry is usually not pain.

It is not time.

And it is not even cost.

The question many people are thinking, but do not always say out loud, is:

“What if I do all of this and I do not like how I look?”

That concern is understandable.

After all, your smile is part of your identity. It affects photographs, confidence, first impressions, and how you feel every day when you look in the mirror.

After more than fifty years practicing cosmetic dentistry, I have learned something important:

People do not want guesses.

They want confidence.

That philosophy became one of the foundations behind the Two Visit Smile Makeover System™.

Because patients deserve more than hoping.

They deserve a process.

The Smile Confidence Journey™

“The goal is not simply seeing a new smile. The goal is experiencing whether it feels natural, attractive, and right for you.”

Digital Smile Simulations Can Be Helpful—But They Have Limitations

Today there are many digital smile design programs and AI technologies that can generate dramatic before and after images on a computer screen.

Patients often see these online.

And they can certainly be exciting.

The challenge is that digital images are relatively easy to create.

Moving pixels on a screen is very different from creating something that functions comfortably and naturally inside a human mouth.

A computer simulation cannot always fully determine:

• speech patterns
• bite relationships
• facial movement
• lip dynamics
• functional comfort
• freeway space
• long term esthetics

Beautiful images alone do not automatically guarantee a successful outcome.

That distinction matters.

Because dentistry happens in real life, not on a computer monitor.

Why We Prefer “Try Before You Decide”

Over many years, I discovered that one of the most effective ways to reduce fear and improve confidence is allowing qualified patients to experience potential changes before treatment.

Not simply see them.

Actually experience them.

For certain candidates, we may recommend a cosmetic mockup using composite resin.

This process is often performed during a second consultation after records, photographs, facial analysis, and clinical evaluation have been completed.

The purpose is not merely cosmetic.

The purpose is evaluation.

Patients may have the opportunity to experience:

• tooth size changes
• smile shape changes
• esthetic appearance
• speech changes
• lip support
• facial harmony
• overall comfort

This helps patients move beyond imagination.

They begin experiencing possibilities.

Not Everyone Is Automatically a Candidate

This step is important.

Not every patient is automatically a candidate for a cosmetic mockup.

Some cases require additional planning.

Some require treatment sequencing.

Others require functional considerations before previewing changes.

That is why evaluation comes first.

The process matters.

Why We Created the Two Visit Smile Makeover System™

The Two Visit Smile Makeover System™ was developed because cosmetic dentistry should not feel like guesswork.

Patients deserve clarity.

Patients deserve education.

And whenever possible, patients deserve the opportunity to move from uncertainty toward confidence.

Because after decades in cosmetic dentistry, I have found that one of the most emotional moments often happens before treatment ever begins.

It happens when patients stop imagining possibilities…

and begin seeing a future version of themselves.

Change Your Smile. Change Your Life.
